The Source in Fort Lauderdale, Florida include:
Group Therapy
Group therapy is essential as it allows for meaningful discussion amongst peers about common experiences and solutions. We stress to each client that they are not alone and group discussions help clients become more open. Groups sessions help break down walls and barriers that were built either in childhood or as the result of years of harmful substance abuse. Group therapy also assists therapists and counselors in better understanding their clients, and to identify the challenges they are facing.
Individual Addiction Therapy
Upon arrival at The Source, each client is introduced to an addiction counselor who will work with them in one-on-one private sessions throughout their stay. We believe that addiction is usually caused by underlying issues, and that the client is abusing drugs and or alcohol as a coping mechanism. The underlying conditions may have been caused by unresolved childhood trauma, physical abuse, rape, or other past events.
To end the cycle of dependency, one must also expose why they are choosing to numb themselves with alcohol or other drugs. Individual sessions provide clients with a safe place to explore and discover the complex nature of their addictions. Through this process, our clients learn how to resolve and heal their underlying issues. The long term goal of recovery at The Source is to heal the pain of the past so each individual client can lead a healthy, addiction-free life.
Twelve Step Therapies
12-step programs form the foundational basis of recovery groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. 12-step meetings provide a type of ongoing group therapy which focus on:
- Accepting addiction as a disease
- Surrendering to a higher power (as defined by each individual)
- Forming relationships with sober people, and those who want to get sober
- Sponsorship – One addict or alcoholic helping another addict or alcoholic
At The Source, we encourage participants to attend community 12-step meetings, read the relevant literature, and most importantly, work the steps.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy
This treatment is one of the newer, more nontraditional types of mental health therapy. In recent years, it has grown in popularity. EMDR has proven to be particularly effective for treating the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD is often a core cause of addiction and occurs after experiences that may include physical assault, rape, or even military combat.
Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT)
RRT is another treatment discipline best known for healing trauma related issues. Particularly successful with victims of addiction, it helps individuals overcome the damaging effects of trauma with a fast, non-prescription drug approach. In treating the effects of trauma, and for the promotion of emotional healing, RRT is considered by many to be a revolutionary treatment. The process oftentimes only requires as few as one to three sessions and allows clients to get their lives back while shedding the burden of addiction.
Brain Mapping Therapy
During a brain mapping session, a scan of the brain is attained by means of a non-invasive recording of EEG brainwaves. The procedure is not painful and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. After many years of medical and psychological research, a database has been developed that compares your brain scan results to others in the general population. It is now possible to diagnose specific overactivity or underactivity present in the brain. Different diagnoses may appear in specific ways, making the procedure an excellent addition to neuropsychological testing. Brain mapping is also useful when trying to identify specific conditions including anxiety, depression, attention deficit disorder, emotional processing difficulty, and other behavioral conditions.
In addition to providing the most recent, research based substance abuse therapies, The Source Addiction Treatment Center also provides an entire complement of nurturing and holistic remedies and treatments that include:
